da pinup bet: According to Reading Chronicle journalist Courtney Friday, Leeds United have joined the race to sign Ovie Ejaria on loan from Liverpool this summer.
The midfielder has also attracted interest from Reading.
Shopping in Liverpool
This is the third time in the past few weeks that Leeds have been linked with bringing in a player from Liverpool after being linked with Ryan Kent and Harry Wilson.
Kent has apparently rejected a loan move to United, but that hasn’t discouraged them from wanting to bring players in from the European champions as they are now looking at bringing Ejaria in.
Repeating the same mistakes
It is imperative that Leeds make the right decisions in the loan market this summer. Phil Hay has stated that the club will go heavily on Premier League loans again, but they can’t afford to repeat the same mistakes as last year.
Last summer saw loan signings such as Izzy Brown and Lewis Baker arrive at Elland Road and make next to no impact with two and 14 appearances respectively, and the signs are there to say that Ejaria would pan out in a similar way.
His loan at Rangers last season was cut short as he was unable to settle at the club, and there is nothing to say that the same thing may not happen at Leeds.
He ended up spending the second half of 2018/19 at Reading where he wasn’t impressive either. The Royals narrowly avoided relegation, and the midfielder didn’t stand out as a star man in that team.
Three goal contributions in 16 games isn’t fantastic for a midfielder, especially when you consider he averaged 0.8 shots inside the box every 90 minutes.
Ejaria may be another flop loan signing if he joins and that is something Leeds just can’t afford going into this season.
