da aposte e ganhe: Former England forward Alan Shearer has questioned Liverpool’s decision to sell Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona in the middle of the 2017-18 campaign.
da jogodeouro: Barcelona tried to sign Coutinho during last summer’s transfer window, but Liverpool resisted the pressure to keep hold of the Brazilian playmaker.
The 25-year-old officially joined the Spanish giants over the weekend, however, in a deal that could reach £145m.
Despite making a considerable profit on Coutinho, Shearer has questioned the club’s decision to sell their star player at this stage of the season.
Indeed, the pundit has claimed that Liverpool’s hopes of finishing in the top four in the Premier League and advancing deep in the Champions League are now in doubt.
Shearer wrote in The Sun:
“Philippe Coutinho leaving is going to severely dent Liverpool’s top-four and Champions League hopes.
“Of course, £145m is a fantastic fee for a player they signed from Inter Milan for just £8.5m five years ago.
“But I’ll be amazed if they can find a replacement for him this month — and it’s a big risk for Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.”
Liverpool have already signed one new player during the winter window – Virgil van Dijk making the move from Southampton for £75m.
The Reds have also been linked with Leicester City attacker Riyad Mahrez over the last 24 hours, but it is unclear whether the Reds are preparing an offer for the Algerian.
