da poker: As reported by The Mirror, Liverpool are facing an uphill battle to retain the services of Emre Can with Serie A giants Juventus stepping up their efforts to sign him.
What’s the story?
da spicy bet: If the Reds are going to maintain consistency across the season then the January transfer window could well be a very important one for the club and retaining their top talent is as important as making smart buys.
One player they’re struggling to keep a hold of is Emre Can.
With his contract running out at the end of the season, The Mirror report that Juventus are stepping up their efforts to convince him to move to Italy, asking international teammate Sami Khedira to lead the charge.
That puts Liverpool in an awkward position, facing the prospect of losing him for nothing or getting some cash for their asset mid-season.
Difficult dilemma
Rated at £19.8m by Transfermarkt, Emre Can has emerged as one of Jurgen Klopp’s most trusted players, making 15 appearances for the Reds so far this season alone.
Part of a near 150 game total at the club, he’s an important figure and losing a player of his influence mid-season could unsettle the side, especially with replacements hard to immediately come by.
The German international is still just 23 years and has plenty of improving to do and the Reds appear to be the perfect club to realise that potential.
However, if he is determined to join Juventus there’s not much they can do, although it may be smarter to keep him until the end of the season rather than let him go in January.
