Current club owner Mike Ashley has put the North-East outfit up for sale and is in negotiations with PCP Partners, who work predominantly with Middle Eastern and Chinese investors.
According to the Daily Mail, when asked if he would still be at the club this time next year if the takeover bid collapses, Benitez said:
“I think so. I’m happy with this group of players, they’re improving, they’re learning. Was I disappointed after the lack of investment in the summer? Yes, but this is still a challenge for me.”
