da bet esporte: Everton caretaker manager Duncan Ferguson has revealed concerns over the fitness of Lucas Digne and Theo Walcott ahead of the trip to Manchester United on Sunday.
What’s the word, then?
Well, both players were substituted off in the latter stages of the 3-1 win against Chelsea at Goodison Park last weekend, and it now appears as though they are both doubts to play at Old Trafford.
Digne hurt his groin against Frank Lampard’s men and was replaced by Leighton Baines, while Walcott also suffered a problem that Ferguson has provided an update on.
He told evertonfc.com: “Lucas is a concern but we are hoping he could be okay for Sunday.
“Theo may not be ready because of the problem he sustained against Chelsea.”
Major blow
For the big Scot to potentially lose two players in key positions he started in his opening game at the helm is clearly a setback, and one he must deal with if it turns out they are both unavailable to play.
Of course he does have two experienced players in Leighton Baines and Bernard who can fill in – as they did when the duo left the pitch last Saturday – but he also has to think about the best selection and system against an in-form United side.
Two 2-1 wins in the Premier League against Tottenham Hotspur and arch-rivals Manchester City was followed up by a 4-0 success against AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League on Thursday, and if Baines is forced to play he could find himself up against the speedy Daniel James.
It would be a huge opportunity for both Baines and Bernard to impress Ferguson and any potential new manager watching on, and given what we saw last weekend it seems unlikely that any player on the pitch for the Toffees won’t be committed.
Did he play for Everton? Simple question but a lot tougher than you think…
Still, losing Digne and Walcott ahead of the weekend still isn’t great news at all. It could be a long afternoon for the Merseyside outfit at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’.
In other Everton news, Toffees fans have slated another player after Duncan Ferguson’s injury update, with one supporter labelling him as a “tea boy”…
