da dobrowin: According to reports in The Sun on Sunday, Chelsea midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek wants regular football next season and says he won’t decide his future until after the World Cup, and Arsenal, whose fans have urged their club to sign a £58.5m-rated attacker who destroyed Hector Bellerin in 2016, should make a move for the highly-rated 22-year-old.
What’s the word, then?
da pinup bet: Well, the 6ft 3in England international has just returned to Stamford Bridge following a season-long loan spell with Crystal Palace, having struggled to get opportunities under Antonio Conte previously.
Loftus-Cheek’s time with the Eagles was a great success as he helped them recover from losing their opening seven Premier League fixtures to stay up before the final couple of matches of the campaign, and his impressive form saw him named in Gareth Southgate’s 23-man squad for the England World Cup.
The midfielder said, via The Sun: “It’s unfair to my team mates if I’m not fully focused on this so all the talk about my future will have to wait until after the World Cup.
“Different things happening at Chelsea may affect my whereabouts next season.”
How well did Loftus-Cheek do last season?
He impressed and ended the 2017/18 campaign with two goals and four assists in 24 top flight appearances, and the tall midfielder was one of the Eagles’ standout players.
His athleticism, quality on the ball and ability to bring it forward and link up intricately with his teammates is one of his main strengths, and he would surely be in demand if he did leave Chelsea before the transfer window slams shut on August 9.
Why should Arsenal move for him?
The 22-year-old midfielder looks to have a huge future ahead of him and he would bring something different to the Gunners midfield because of his athleticism, energy and ability to drive forward with the ball – whether through the centre or from out wide.
He has shown already with Palace and England the good link-up he has with his teammates, and he would surely thrive playing alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
