da pixbet: Everton’s on-loan midfielder Andre Gomes will have to return to Barcelona in the summer, with Sport reporting there is not an option to buy.
What’s the word?
Gomes joined Everton on deadline day in August as Barcelona shipped out a 25-year-old who failed to make the grade at the Camp Nou.
The Catalan club had signed the Portuguese ace for £33million in 2016 after the former Valencia star shone at the Mestalla. His move did not prove successful, yet he is already showing at Goodison Park he has something to offer the right club.
In just two Premier League outings for the Toffees the midfielder, valued by Transfermarkt at £13million, has been a key part of Marco Silva’s side.
The 6ft 2in midfielder has coped well in both outings, and shone on the ball in terms of possession.
Would he return to Barcelona?
His debut for Everton was a long time coming after signing with a muscle problem, but both his outings in blue have been promising.
The Grijo-born creator also told Sky Sports that he is enjoying his time on Merseyside and is not ruling out staying longer.
“I’m enjoying it here with my new team-mates, with the team, with the fans and with the staff,” he noted. “I’m really happy right now and I want to keep it like that until the end of the season and give my best.
“We need to discuss at the end of the season of course with Everton, with Barcelona and see if Everton are happy with me.”
As for Sport’s report on Everton not holding an option to buy, they do suggest Barcelona may be open to accepting a lower offer than the 25-year-old’s €100million release clause.
If the Spanish outfit are open to letting a player who featured 78 times for the club leave, Everton should do all they can to make it work.
