da fazobetai: According to reports in The Sun, Bournemouth have had an £18m bid for Napoli midfielder Jorginho rejected.
da bwin: The Sun says that Cherries boss Eddie Howe had been keen to strengthen his midfield options by bringing the Italy international to the Vitality Stadium, but the offer was rejected by the Serie A giants.
The report adds that Napoli are keen to keep the 25-year-old, but it remains to be seen whether they could be tempted to sell if they receive a larger bid for the Brazilian-born star before the summer transfer window slams shut at the end of this month.
Meanwhile, West Ham United may well be in the market for a new central midfielder too with reports in Italian media outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport last Friday suggesting that they wanted to sign Mario Lemina before he completed a move to Premier League rivals Southampton on Tuesday, and they could be tempted to take a closer look at the Napoli man.
Here are three reasons West Ham should hijack Bournemouth’s bid to sign Jorginho…
Attributes
The Italy international is able to play in a range of midfield roles, but he has often been deployed in defensive midfield by Napoli.
Last season in 27 Serie A appearances, the 25-year-old still showed his attacking capabilities by creating 38 chances from a deep-lying position, picking up three assists.
However, he is also just as effective from a defensive point of view by making 52 interceptions and 17 clearances last term.
With an impressive passing accuracy of 91% and having successfully completed 11 of the 14 take-ons he attempted, he has all of the attributes needed to be a great modern day midfielder and he would certainly improve the West Ham side.
Mark Noble successor
While Noble loves West Ham and the Irons fans love Noble, the club may have to start thinking about finding a midfield successor for their 30-year-old captain who perhaps hasn’t been as impressive in the last couple of seasons as he was in the earlier years of his career.
With his passing success and ability to dictate play and create chances from a deep-lying position, as well as being able to pick the ball up and take it forward, Jorginho has all of the attributes Noble has and more and he would prove to be an exciting addition alongside the likes of Cheikhou Kouyate and Pedro Obiang in the middle of the park.
Price tag
While Bournemouth have had an £18m bid turned down for the 25-year-old, it does beg the question of whether Napoli could be tempted to sell the Italy international if they receive a bid of around £20m.
The Cherries obviously felt that they had a chance of getting Jorginho when launching that first offer, and if the Irons could hijack the move and get him for around the initial £20m they paid to sign Marko Arnautovic in July, it would be another great bit of business by the club in what has been an impressive summer.
