What did he say?
The former England international is close friends with the left-back and suggested that they get on well with each other, recognising Robertson for his ability on the pitch as well as his character off it.
They may be at different junctions in their respective careers but are often seen fooling around together, leading to them being labelled as the “jokers” of the Liverpool dressing room.
Milner also spoke about the sleeptalking app they use, and said it has recorded him speaking Spanish, whereas it only picks up “farm noises” from the Scot.
Speaking to the Guardian, he said: “On the pitch Robbo is unbelievable and off the pitch he is a great character. He also had a difficult journey into football but his ability is massive.
“He’s a big presence within the dressing room, lively, enjoys a joke and never shuts up. It’s important to have those characters in the squad especially when, like us, you’re chasing something special.”
As the most experienced player in the squad – with 706 career appearances under his belt – the former Milner is likely another important figure to have around the dressing room, as well as on the pitch.
Strong mentality
Jurgen Klopp reportedly told Milner that he left him out of the starting line-up for the Champions League final because of his desire to have him on the pitch at the end of the game, and that highlights the value of his experience.
He has been important to the Reds in recent years due to his versatility, and already this season he has featured in midfield, right-back and left-back.
However, it may be his mentality and attitude that is most significant to the German, and is evidenced by the fact he continues to work as hard as any of his teammates – proving that he is still the fittest member of the squad in pre-season.

Robertson is another who reflects that in his character. His tireless effort up and down the left flank, game after game, shows his determination and willingness to never give up, and that is crucial to Liverpool’s success.
Liverpool have undoubted quality, but so do Man City, and over the course of a title race they will need more than that to win out over their rivals.
Klopp has built a squad with the necessary mindset that gives them that edge. Not many teams are able to overcome defeat in a Champions League final by winning the competition the following year, and the ruthlessness his team have this term after missing out on the title last season is something to be admired.
