Last season saw him net four times and provide four more assists in the Premier League alone, whilst he has been equally creative this year too. In his 18 games in the top-flight, Digne has managed three assists, and coming up against a Arsenal side on Saturday afternoon that had already leaked 27 goals, he would have fancied his chances of adding to that total.
Instead, the Frenchman produced a hugely disappointing display at Goodison Park, and Everton fans flooded to Twitter to voice their frustrations with the full-back, and raised questions about his form in general.
Some fans questioned why Duncan Ferguson opted for Digne against the Gunners, and urged him to go back to Baines once more.
A few fans of the Toffees also criticised the 26-year-old’s crossing and deliveries from set-pieces, with one supporter in particular calling him the worst corner-kick taker they had ever seen – as per Sofascore, Digne lost possession 18 times and completed just one cross out of his six attempts.
With Baines still on the Everton books, and a busy Christmas schedule to boot too, new manager Carlo Ancelotti may be inclined to take Digne out of the firing line and turn to one of his experienced campaigners. It could be the best solution for all those involved.
