We learnt this week that Leeds had been knocked back in their enquiry to sign Andre Gray, but we also saw Phil Hay claim that things could change on that front.
Leeds shouldn’t tie up a deal for a striker until they’re 100% certain Gray is unavailable as his stats when playing in the Championship show exactly what he has to offer.
Gray’s WhoScored numbers from the 2015/16 season are supreme, and if he can pick up where he left off when dropping back into the second tier there aren’t many players that can rival him.
Winning the Golden Boot is one thing, but Gray’s overall play was enough to earn him the Player of the Year award.
You can understand why as well. Alongside his 23 goals he provided eight assists during that campaign.
It’s not just the volume of goals he scored either. He just never looked like missing a chance throughout that term with his conversion rate sitting at 21.1%. In comparison, Patrick Bamford’s sits at 11.7% this season, so you can see just how much of a better finisher the Watford man was compared to Leeds’ current first-choice.
Leeds may have been knocked back in their initial approach, but things can change very quickly in the window. As far as pursuing someone capable of replacing Eddie Nketiah, this could well and truly be their man.
In other news, one Leeds man’s comments show that the Whites may need an attitude adjustment.
