da betcris: Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to drool over Dayot Upamecano following RB Leipzig’s 3-0 win over Tottenham in the Champions League last 16 on Tuesday.
da dobrowin: The centre-back helped Julian Nagelsmann’s side build on their 1-0 win in the first leg to register a 4-0 aggregate victory over Jose Mourinho’s men, who were all but finished after 21 minutes as Marcel Sabitzer struck twice.
Despite that man’s double, it was Upamecano who arguably impressed the most.
The French defender earned the highest rating of any player on the pitch from SofaScore with an 8.0 to his name – the next best rating was Sabitzer with 7.7.
The 21-year-old made five clearances and completed a huge six tackles, while also winning nine of his 14 ground duels against the north Londoners.
Upamecano also attempted three dribbles – completing all of them – while blocking one shot and making one interception as well. It truly was a colossal performance from the youngster who shut Tottenham out across both legs.
Let’s see what the Liverpool fans on Twitter have been saying about him…
To kick off the reaction, one supporter called Upamecano the “perfect” replacement for Dejan Lovren this summer.
The Croatia international finds himself out of contract at Anfield at the end of the season, and judging by a few supporters’ comments on Twitter, they wouldn’t be too bothered to see him go.
The former Southampton man came in for some harsh criticism after Liverpool suffered defeat to Watford recently, while he was also targeted following the club’s 2-2 draw against Shrewsbury in the FA Cup – it does seem like he’s always the scapegoat when things go wrong.
Elsewhere, two fans mentioned that Upamecano should be signed alongside his RB Leipzig teammate Timo Werner this summer.
Call yourself a Liverpool expert? How much did each of these big-money January signings cost?
Liverpool have been strongly linked with the German striker who has scored 27 goals in all competitions this season, and bringing both him and the powerful Frenchman to Anfield would definitely be a major transfer coup by Jurgen Klopp.
